Science and Around the World

Snakes CAN HEAR!

One of the many things I get all the time is “snakes can’t hear”, and anyone who has been around snakes knows that isn’t true.

They may not hear the same way we do, but they react to sound. Snakes have the same internal ear structures as other animals, even though they don’t have an external ear. It turns out they may hear better than I even realized!

Popular Science had a great article on some research into how they react to sound. The link to the original study didn’t work, but it was still a great article.

Community spotlight

We need more community spotlights!

I want a list of community spotlights to use for the weekly spotlight!

I need the community's help, though. 😅

I made a quick form that anyone can fill out. It captures a list for me to start going through.

Hobby and Industry News

What would you like to see?

I have been sharing a lot of news and data about the industry lately, mainly because that is the research I was doing already.

It is really interesting to me but I want to make sure it is what you want to see. So do you like that sort of stuff or do you want more information directly related to keeping and breeding?

Here are the categories I plan on having in this section:

  1. Hobby and industry-related news

  2. Keeping resources, guides, and some random cool stuff

  3. Breeding information, resources, guides, and industry tools

Which category(s) do you prefer? Let me know with a reply or a comment below!

Updated and Expanded Spotted Python Care Guide

Since I did a more compact quick reference guide for the Hognose, I figured I would do one for Spotted Pythons also.

Save, share, and use it to keep your herps happy! The full guide is still up, and I’m still planning on refining it after the case study.🤓

A bunch of stuff for some of the more common species will also be coming, but Spotted Python resources are a big focus over the next month!

Pet Insurance

I use Money.com for a lot of things, and I didn’t even know they had pet insurance, too.

Support us by checking out our sponsor below! Every click helps algorithms and sponsors know this newsletter is a real resource.

Most of the companies on the list still only provide insurance for Cats and Dogs, so if you have a good company for exotic pet insurance, let us know!

Could you afford $3,500 to remove a chew toy?

From $3,500 to remove a chew toy, to $7,000 for a hip replacement, keeping your pets healthy is getting more and more expensive. Fortunately, pet insurance can help offset these rising costs. Pet insurance can cover eligible accidents and illnesses with up to 90% reimbursement. Get your buddy covered today with plans starting at just $10 a month.

A break next week!

I am traveling for work and will take a break from this newsletter next week. If something is going to your inbox it should be packed with awesome, so I’ll make sure I make it awesome by spending extra time on the next one!

Until then, herp on!
